Polish Traditions

Even though it doesn't come out that often, Rose is half Polish and so Polish Holiday traditions must continue with our new family. We spent a fun filled evening at the Wyzga's making our annual perogie's. Only home made perogies are good enough to be served at the Christmas Eve dinner. Happy eating Polish people!!

Brie, Beer, and Coal

Jesse and I spent a festive evening at the Ward's stuffing ourselves with brie and cinnamon cookies, collecting a seasonal lump of coal, and enjoying the company of good friends.

Some of the nights more enjoyable moments included Jesse and Ryan encouraging Chip to try some hot nuts, angry yelling street hobo, and getting lost in our lovely nations capital.

Ho! Ho! Ho!

The Simpson family tradition of seeing whose ornament will be placed closest to the top of the tree continued this year. Sarah's angle ornament took the early lead with a little help from Joe Walker (to see awkward pictures of Sarah click on the picture below). Devon soon placed a wooden American Flag, straddled by two golden walnuts, hung very close together, over top of them. A few minutes later the Christmas tree fell over, almost hitting Campbell and Colin, displacing the ornaments. Jon soon placed his own green ball atop the tree. Who actually holds the top spot at this moment nobody knows. It was quite the drama. Stay tuned for future updates.

Christmas Tree Day

Two years is definitely enough time to call something a tradition. The weekend after Thanksgiving is our traditional Christmas Tree Day. Sarah joined us this year as we made the pilgrimage to Pine Valley Farms. (click on the image to see more photos)
Sarah gets all the credit for picking the winning tree. Due to a very early Thanksgiving, we had our tree up and decorated before December. Are we a little too excited about this holiday?

Girls night out

Bekah coming into town needs to be the event of the year. We decided that trying to go camping together would undoubtedly brings adventure and good laughs. The fire took about three tries, but it was a good fire. We even tried a new recipe- Corn in the fire. It tasted a little burnt. (Click on the good eating for two more pictures)
What a great night just being together and catching up. We miss you Bekah!

Roll of Film Three Month Review

I finally took enough pictures to develop my film sooo... Starting back in October is Pumpkin day. (Click on our pumpkins to see more photos)

Chris and Kiara joined us for our Butler's orchard pumpkin hunt tradition. You just can't pick one up at Giant, you have to walk through at least two fields of rotting pumpkins to find a perfect carvable pumpkin fro your doorstep. Jesse chose to embody the essence of our new house by carving his "Damascus hick". The cigarette hanging out of his mouth would have been a fire hazard and probably would cause him to be smashed on his debut night by our black lung neighbors. And no, we did not shut our all our lights and hide in our basement from the "trick or treaters". We joined the neighbors sitting out on their front porches laughing as they handed out candy to about 200 kids! Good thing I had two bags of Costco candy!

Just in case you can't stop by...

What a great suprise!

Every year for Christmas I am tempted to think hmm... what else do I NEED? Sure, I can think up a whole list of things I want, but after traveling to Mexico and India I could not hide in America anymore. I now know there are so many people who really do NEED some things for Christmas- just to stay alive. After some prayer, Jesse and I decided to only ask for presents for others. Using World Vision's Gift Catalog, we made up a Christmas list including:
A share of a pig
Malaria immunizations for one family
Warm coats
Food for African children

I'll admit it- I was hesitant. I really wanted a digital camera for Christmas and a few 20 other things I had on a list ready in October. So I threw away my list not knowing God provides even for my little wants. Not 1 week later, a check came in the mail closing out an account my Dad had for me that he forgot to close when I married. Just enough money was there to get a great digital camera! So... in the mail is my new Cannon Powershot A710 IS!!! Images from my new camera to follow in future blogs...
