A history of brewing beer that dates back to 800 BC, a different brat for every meal of the day, and the natural beauty of the landscape made Germany an easy choice for my first adventure in Europe. My family heritage dates back to 16th century Germany and I was very excited about discovering the traditions of my distant homeland.
On our way to the Heidlelberg town center, we were side tracked by the smell of brats being cooked over an open flame. Jesse had to have one!
Rose and I joined the locals for a few beers at Vetter, a local brewery in Heidelberg. They are famous for brewing the world strongest beer at 33% alcohol. The beer hall setting was a great induction to the beer culture of Germany.
Brats and sauerkraut are standard Franconian fare and they keep you thirsting for more beer.
Steins anyone?
outstanding pic of Rose by candlelight. that is a real flame (the candle, not Rose) - right? the camera caught it perfectly - and still enough light to capture the mood. good camera!
ReplyDeletebut i also have to comment on the braut pic - THANK YOU!! for taking pics of food and people. i guess that's why i love your blog - oh yeah, and scenery. But did you catch the hearty grain bread in the basket in the background?? ok, i'm hungry.
