Thanks for all the prayers that surrounded our team as we ventured into Uganda to provide medical care to a small town not even visible on the country maps.
We had four physicians and physicians assistants with nurses, a treatment room, OBGYN exam room, two dental offices, and a triage area. It is estimated that we were able to provide medical care to 1200-1500 people in only six days. I worked in the treatment room with another nurse. We provided wound care, IV antibiotics, re-hydration, and syphilis injections. It was a perfect fit for me. We were helped by a local doctor, dentist and nurse. Two others nurses joined us from a city about eight hours away. After we left, the local medical personnel were able to continue to provide much needed medical care for these people and the ground research for establishing a permanent local clinic in this area has started!
God sustained and provided for us all in so many ways. There was joy and enthusiasm despite sleepless nights. We had only three people get sick and it was only for a day! A family newly diagnoses with HIV gave their lives to the Lord. One child needed a specialized neurological procedure done and we found out that a neuro team would be arriving the next week to this remote area! God holds these people in his heart!
"Jesus went through all the towns and villages teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When He saw the crowds, he has compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd." MATT 9:35-36
I initially became a nurse with the goal of providing medical care to third world countries. Instead, God chose to give me a husband and a new mission for my life. It was so gracious of Him to also bring me this opportunity to fulfill an old dream before I begin the next phase of the life he has mapped out for me. He brought me amazing joy as I used the gifts he has given me. Who knows what he has in store for me and Jesse in the future, but I can be sure that his plans for us are good.
